We have officially begun the 1st step to creating our
own FFLF cookbook!
The next step is up to you... those who want to be part of this creation....
It's simple. Just e-mail your favorite healthy/ health conscious recipe(s) to
www.typensave.com (contact the
committee members below for password). Leave the rest to us ( the cookbook
committee )!
Please tell your friends and family ( including Grandmas) that they are more
than welcome to submit their entries! It's a fun way to get involved, show your
support and help others by providing them with nutritious and delicious ideas
for healthy cooking!
Don't be afraid to submit your recipes even if they are not "healthy". Together,
we will modify the recipe to make it more "healthy" or feel free to make your
own substitutions. For example, instead of 1 cup of whole milk, use 1 cup of 2%
milk. You get the idea!
The deadline for submitting recipes is October 15th 2009.
Looking forward to your creative entries!

Submitted by Max...(Jeff and Barbara's son)
On 12/15/07, I sold chocolate covered cookies at a B'nai B'rith Youth
Organization convention at the Hudson Valley Resort and Spa in support of
fighting breast cancer and in support of Friends for Life Foundation. The cookies
were a kind of cookie covered in a chocolate layer and engraved in the
chocolate was "Friend for Life" with a breast cancer ribbon sticker on the
back. In short, it was amazing (and also tasty if I do say so myself).
The convention actually lasted from 12/14-12/15, but I only sold them the
second day due to Shabbat. I made an announcement about the cookies at
the beginning of the convention. I told everyone "I am selling really
really good cookies for $3 a piece. I want everyone to know that Samson
(my BBYO chapter) is not keeping a cent of the money. ALL proceeds
are going to Friends for Life."
The time had finally come for me to set up the stand to sell my cookies
and see just how much people care. I never thought that selling
cookies would leave me in tears and speechless. The thought and sight
of people just swarming over to me shouting "I want one" and "these are
really good" left me with no words. $3 for a cookie is a little much, but
people bought them anyway. The best parts of the experience were when
people bought like 6 cookies at a time and when people didn't even buy
cookies- they just gave me their money. This one adolescent came over to
me and handed me $30. In response to this I looked a little awkwardly at
him and asked "so do you want 10 cookies?" He replied with an astonishing
answer which was something to the extent of "no, my mom had breast cancer.
Take it, I'll go and get more (money)." He walked away and the only words
I could find to dictate were "thank you". Words spoken in half a voice
because I didn't and still don't know enough words to express my full
gratitude. This experience has definitely made a large impact on me and it
is a memory I will take with me forever

In this beautifully illustrated picture
book, Rana the frog is suddenly awakened by singing birds. With a quick,
thoughtless response, he grumpily tells them to be quiet. Along comes
Lulu, the beautiful, wise bird, who helps him realize the importance of
thinking before you speak or act out. The book is unique in its simple and
direct story, its vibrant and bold illustrations and the questions at the
end, which help children to verbalize their feelings.
The Grumpy Frog is a celebrated winner of the iParenting Media Award and
is the first book in a series entitled Think...then Jump™, which
encourages children to make a mindful splash in life.

healthy relationships
Asking for (and receiving) help and support from others is surprisingly
difficult for many people
It was extremely successful! I want to thank everyone who
was able to attend. We hope that "Dr. Mary" was able to share some ideas
that will allow you to be able to ask for help when you need it and be
able to receive it when loved ones and friends try to be there to get you
through. We all have experienced how difficult this is at times. Please
feel free to be in touch with Mary. If you need any more info about her,
please feel free to contact me.

Huntington
Hospital Look Good - Feel better program
We went to Huntington Hospital to visit cancer patients who are part of
the Look good- Feel Better program. We put together packages of
items and we met everyone in the lounge for pictures delivery to the
patients. I can't even fully express how wonderful it felt to see the
looks on the patients faces! They were so happy and appreciative that the
kids were trying to make a difference and bring joy their way. The
patients loved their gifts!
The kids felt so great knowing they do something good for these patients.
See more on the Kids For Life page.
